    First Time Trying Barfoot Shoes

There's less wasted space ahead of my toes than with most shoe shapes, but I was hoping for a just a smidge wider toebox than what the Blazer has. (I've been wearing men's 2E wides in a half-size larger than the Blazer pair I bought, and they feel roughly equivalent on my feet in regards to splay space. Possibly a bit less, as the old shoes are very broken in at this point.) Apparently the Blazer is made with Lems wider sole, but not their widest sole. Something I only noticed after purchase, so that's my mistake.

There is definitely less cushion under my feet than I'm used to, but I knew going in that would be part of the barefoot shoe experience. (Research suggests that Lems shoes are fairly moderate on this point and a decent starting brand for those new to barefoot shoes.) I don't care to have a stiff block of a sole underfoot anyway, so I appreciate the flexibility of the soles and they're not so thin that my feet fee unprotected. It's a good balance for me.

Side note that the Safari color includes a small amount of leather on the upper. Not sure yet if that's going to require any special maintenance or if it can be largely ignored. Something to keep an eye on for potential wear and tear since a little bit of care would probably be enough to save it if addressed early.

Overall, I think I'll be quite happy with these shoes, and I'm currently looking into buying one of the Lems Boulder boots to use as a (mild) winter shoe. Still, when it comes time to replace the Blazer…
