Lems Outsoles Explained

At Lems, we are constantly sourcing and developing premium materials to craft the shoes you know and love - putting each one through real-world testing to ensure performance across a variety of environments.

Lems offers two different material types for its outsoles - Injection blown rubber (IBR) and full rubber. IBR is designed for lightweight, everyday wear, while full rubber provides added durability for more demanding activities.

What is Injection Blown Rubber?
Injection blown rubber is a blend of rubber and air, resulting in a noticeably lighter and flexible outsole. This construction enhances flexibility and reduces overall weight, though it can be less durable than full rubber outsoles.

In practical terms, shoes made with IBR may wear down faster over time. Depending on your needs and activity level, you may prefer the ultra-light feel of IBR or opt for the added durability of full rubber.

Best Uses for IBR Shoes
To extend their lifespan, IBR outsole shoes are best suited for casual, everyday wear and less demanding activities. They’re ideal for light walking, travel, and day-to-day use, with some styles capable of handling occasional easy hikes.

Many people choose IBR models specifically for their lightweight comfort - especially when they’re not tackling rugged terrain.

When to Choose Full Rubber
If your adventures take you off the beaten path, a full rubber outsole may be the better option. Our trail-ready styles are built for durability and grip, making them great for hiking, trail running, and long travel days spent on your feet.

While these styles don’t use IBR, they’re still designed to be lightweight - so you get the toughness you need without feeling weighed down.
