Best gift I ever gave my husband

I have tried for 30 years to get my husband to move away from his standard work boot and he would never do it. I decided to chance it and bought him these for Christmas and he is so happy with them! He keeps saying - "Tthese are the bes ttings ever - why did I fight this so much?"

Just buy them - you won't regret it

Great Boot for. Minnesota Winter Hiking

This past spring I switched to zero drop barefoot-feel shoes for my daily 4-5 miles of dog walking. The zero drop shoes eliminated the constant aches and pains I've experienced for years in my feet, ankles and knees. Now that I wear exclusively zero drop shoes, when I try to wear regular moderate drop narrow toe box shoes or boots my feet immediately protest the change by causing me pain.

Fast forward to winter time in Minnesota which begins in earnest by mid-November. When the cold caused me to try to switch to the hiking boots I wore last winter, these caused me pain after only a mile or two. So I hit the interwebs looking for a zero drop, wide toe box, barefoot-feel insulated hiking boot, and I came across the Lems Breck insulated boot.

I walk the dog 4 to 5 miles each day over a mixture of paved and non-paved park trails and undeveloped tracks through the woods. In the winter much of this hiking is on, over and through sometimes deep snow, uneven packed snow and slippery ice. During my walks the temperatures can range down to 5 below zero.

I've been wearing the Lems twice daily for a month and a half now, and I couldn't be happier. They have a side zipper which makes it easy to get them on and off. They lace up tight and provide good support over uneven ground. The traction sole is good over different surfaces (although I frequently wear ice cleats for better snow/ice traction). and they're plenty warm for active hiking. They appear to be waterproof, although…

    Size up for winter activities

TLDR: Go up a half size and possibly a full size if you plan on wearing these outside urban use.

I really like these boots but for me there are a couple things that keep me from giving 5 stars.

Typically I wear 8.5/9 wide in most boots and shoes. I first bought a 9 as I planned on wearing these boots for cold weather hunting and hiking with thicker wool socks and inserts. The 9s fit but were too narrow and too little volume for anything more than liner socks.

I exchanged for 9.5 and they fit much better with thick wool socks but they could have a touch more volume to help with room and warmth. If anyone wears these and stays static for too long they might be disappointed in the warmth but they're similar in warmth to any other moderately insulated boots out there.

Overall I'm happy with the boots but in the future if I were to replace my current pair with a new pair I might try a size 10 since exchanges are easy.
