Dear Lems Community,

I want to share something important with you—something that will likely affect the future pricing of our shoes.

Due to a dramatic increase in tariffs, our Step into Summer Sale (May 5-12, 2025) may be the last time you'll be able to purchase Lems at our current prices. We're doing everything we can to delay any changes, but the reality is that new tariffs are over 160%, compared to the 17% we were previously paying. That’s nearly 10 times higher, and it more than doubles the cost of making each pair of shoes.

If these tariffs remain in place—or even if they are reduced by half—we’ll still be forced to increase our prices sometime between June and September. If we don’t adjust, we risk running out of the funds that we need to keep inventory moving and to pay for incoming product.

That’s why we’re offering this sale—not just to prepare for what’s ahead, but as a way to keep doing what we love. Designing shoes. Building them from the ground up. Hearing your stories about how they’ve helped you walk farther, stand longer, or simply feel better. That’s what drives us. This brand was built on passion and purpose, and no matter the challenges, we’re committed to finding a way forward. We’ll continue making the shoes you love—because this is more than a business to us. It’s a promise.

We know some of you may be wondering, “Why manufacture in China?” It’s a fair question—and an important one.

Here’s the truth:

China is the heart of global footwear manufacturing. It’s where the best technology, materials, and craftsmanship exist. The factories we work with have been our partners for over 15 years, and they are truly incredible people. Without third party manufacturers, like them, the startup of a small brand would not have been possible. They are experts in their specialties—from waterproof boots to minimalist sandals—and each has invested heavily in the machines, materials, and skills that make our shoes what they are.

Even if we wanted to manufacture in the U.S., it’s simply not feasible. We’re a small team of just 10 people in the office and 20 in our warehouse. The U.S. lacks the infrastructure and sourcing capabilities—95% of our materials would still need to come from Asia. Other countries like Vietnam or Cambodia don’t offer the same level of quality, precision, and consistency that our Chinese partners deliver every day.

We’re committed to transparency. We’re committed to quality. And above all, we’re committed to you.

Yes, prices will likely go up. But our mission hasn’t changed. We’re still independently owned. We still pour our hearts into every detail—from design to fit to finish. And we’ll keep finding ways to bring you the best shoes possible, no matter what.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

With gratitude,
Andrew
