Balanced Weight Distribution
The increased overall outsole width ensures that your body weight is spread out more evenly, reducing the pressure points on your feet. This even weight distribution enhances comfort during various activities. For those with lower arches and flat feet, you will find that this is a big improvement. But for those with high arches, you may feel very little, to no difference.
Enhanced Outsole
The Primal 3 is made with our Widest Fit Last, just like the Primal 2. The difference is that we developed a new outsole on the Primal 3 with a wider footprint for more ground contact underneath the foot.
Higher Sidewalls
When examining the Lems Primal 3 from a lateral view, you may notice a visual difference — the sidewalls now wrap up higher on the sides. This is a deliberate design choice aimed at improving both fit and lateral stability. The higher side walls provide a snugger fit around the contours of your feet, cradling them comfortably.
Zero-Drop Platform
Just like the Primal 2, the Primal 3 is built on a zero-drop platform which keeps your heel and toes level, mimicking your natural barefoot position on a flat surface.

Wish I'd Bought More
I am a huge fan of the Primal 2s, they were a complete game-changer in my trail/hiking footwear. It didn't occur to me they'd ever be discontinued because they met a need and niche. Super lightweight, great barefoot feel with good toe coverage and arch support, plus the narrow heel and wide toe box fit my foot like no other shoe has.
I'm an active person who has foot fractures from my outdoor adventures and these were the only shoes that worked to strengthen and support my feet correctly after coming out of casts and boots. I've tried other zero-drop shoes (Altra and Xero) and they don't compare to this specific Lems shoe, in fact one of those other brands makes my toes hurt after a few hours wearing them.
I echo the anger and disappointment of other customers lamenting that this version is being discontinued. I just bought the last colorful pair in my size.
The one issue with this shoe is getting a hole at the top mesh/seam after some wear.
From my Zen's review: The store said Lems Zen are the next iteration (not the 3s because of weight I was told).
The Zen shoes are shorter in length and have a wider fit at the ankle, along with being overall clunkier and thick on the bottom. There's also an odd fit over the top that I thought may have been my socks at try-on, but switched and they're still tight in the shoelace area, even after adjusting multiple times with a pro fitter.
Zens are not a decent substitute for the Primal 2 shoes, and from my try on, neither are…

Love the Women’s Primal 2
I’m so sad to have read (I hope I’m wrong) that you are discontinuing the Primal 2. I tried the Primal 3 and the sole is too stiff and the heel much too wide. I will have to look for a new shoe if you don’t continue the Primal 2.

Great for narrow heels and midfoot with room for toes!
These are so perfect for women with narrow heels and midfoot! They had room for some flat insoles for my extra blister-prone feet. I'll be buying them again.
