Best barefoot winter boots!
I adore these boots! These boots hit everything I have spent an embarrassing amount of time looking for in boots.
- Insulated
- Waterproof
- Thicker sole (this is a bonus for me. I have Raynayd's and a thin sole allows the cold to creep up from the ground)
- Easy on with the side zip, but adjustable with the laces
- High enough volume not to press on my feet vertically, and wide enough space for the toes to splay
- Comfortable for walking
- Structured enough for things like snowshoeing
- Good grip on slippery surfaces
This was not a criteria, but amazingly, they do NOT make my feet look huge.
I have the Lems Primal 2 in size 8M/9.5W, and I sized up a full size in the Breck Boots Insulated to 9M/10.5W, which is perfect. I have space to wear with my thickest socks, but they're okay with my regular socks too. I would size up half a size if you don't intend to change your socks.
I am thrilled with these boots!

Excellent boot with a caveat
Ive worn this boot for a few outings in temp ranges from 40 degrees down to zero degrees and they have been an excellent warm boot with a small caveat. On the right boot, where the tongue gusset meets the boot, there is something with the construction/attachment point of the gusset that adds pressure on that singular spot which is uncomfortable. It feels like a hump of thread, which I am guessing is reinforcement stitching for that gusset connection point. When the boot is moderately tightened against the foot, I can really feel the knot against my ankle, so the solve is to wear the boot a little looser than I normally would to alleviate that pressure point.
Other than that, the boot has performed excellently in the cold temperature/snow that I have taken it out in!

Great so far. Super comfortable and durable, and feel good on my hallux rigidus and limitus big toes. Will buy them again, eventually
