    Indulge Me

    Indulge me in the paranoid fantasy that while I was sleeping someone from Lems snuck into my house and took a 3d scan of my size 14 foot. That's the only way I can explain how well these fit.

    As an older gen X'er I discovered zero drop shoes about 6 years ago. For me it's all about alignment. I noticed when I first put them on that I stood straight naturally. Before zero drop occasionally my hips would go out of line a little and cause that low back pain so many of us are too familiar with. It hasn't happened once since zero drop.

    I've tried a few different brands. I like the Xero shoes around the house and in the yard. I actually managed to wear holes in my last pair which is odd because I know I didn't put 10,000 miles on them. They are too minimal for these old bones for long hours on the pavement. I have had a couple pair of Altra running shoes, they're comfy but maybe a little too cushioned.

    These Lems are just the right balance. I don't need to feel every pebble on a gravel driveway. If I get any kind of wear out of them, then I can say for certain I have a new shoe brand.

    There may still be holes in the zero drop market. I know there are work boots made, but it's a little counter to the minimalist ethos to make a sole stiff enough to spend a day jumping on a shovel. I know there are hiking boots, but I don't know if there are any built as tough as my old Asolo favorites. It seems like for everything else there's Lems.

    New to Wide Toebox

    I normally wear 14 in all the big brands but needed 15 for the Drifter. Lems' sizing is different from other brands like Nike so make sure to measure your feet and look at their sizing chart. The problem with slip-on shoes is that I can't tighten them. So while the length and width are good, I have a lot of space at the top of my foot. That causes the shoes to slip back and jam against my toe. I'll need to figure out a way to prevent that. I like the collapsible heel feature. I didn't think I'd use it but sometimes I do. The wide toebox feels great on my poor, shoe shaped toes. I had no idea I was squishing them all my life.
