Balanced Weight Distribution
The increased overall outsole width ensures that your body weight is spread out more evenly, reducing the pressure points on your feet. This even weight distribution enhances comfort during various activities. For those with lower arches and flat feet, you will find that this is a big improvement. But for those with high arches, you may feel very little, to no difference.
Enhanced Outsole
The Primal 3 is made with our Widest Fit Last, just like the Primal 2. The difference is that we developed a new outsole on the Primal 3 with a wider footprint for more ground contact underneath the foot.
Higher Sidewalls
When examining the Lems Primal 3 from a lateral view, you may notice a visual difference — the sidewalls now wrap up higher on the sides. This is a deliberate design choice aimed at improving both fit and lateral stability. The higher side walls provide a snugger fit around the contours of your feet, cradling them comfortably.
Zero-Drop Platform
Just like the Primal 2, the Primal 3 is built on a zero-drop platform which keeps your heel and toes level, mimicking your natural barefoot position on a flat surface.

Switching from Birkenstocks
Great "barefoot with a sole" option... The strap between my toes will take some getting used to, been wearing Birkenstocks for decades... but realized that I need the flexibility and less arch support. I am hoping that they make some with no between the toe strap in the near future... Half sizes would have helped.

Best Sandals I have ever owned !
I hike a lot and these sandals are great for summer hikes along rivers and waterfalls. They stay on your feet and can even handle some minor rock scrambling.

Near perfect but missed one important thing
I absolutely love the fit, comfort, and design of the Switchback. I have a gait problem and walk with an assistance device. Finding shoes that fit properly and have the proper stability can at times prove difficult. Finding flip flops or sandals is even more of a challenge. I need a back strap or else I will kick them off as I walk.
The switchbacks seem to have been telepathically designed around my feet. My feet sit in the footbed and line up exactly with the foot contour design. The straps did not need any adjustment, just a tug on the side strap and they are like they were meant to be.
The construction and build quality seems to be second to none. The same goes for the overall physical design. The one thing that Lems totally overlooked almost cannot be forgiven. They have designed in a textured footbed which is great, but they for some reason chose to not use Microban or similar in the footbed. I honestly thought the practice of not using that in Sandler manufacturing went away a decade ago for all except the cheapest of cheap sandals. Feet sweat, even in an open shoe. Those grooves on the footbed trap that sweat. Without an anti microbial treatment, that sweat and the skin cells decompose and build up. These switchbacks stink like crazy and have a visible buildup. I have scrubbed them a few times already to start over. I do not wear them unless have immediately washed my feet thoroughly with soap and water and ensured that they were perfectly dry.
