TRAILHEAD VS. MESA: VAD ÄR SKILLNADEN?

Desert Khaki

We recommend ordering UP 1/2 size from your normal US size. If you have wider feet, we do not suggest this shoe.

Unsure of your size? We recommend ordering 2+ pairs at a time, as we offer a flat shipping fee of $5.95 & free exchange options for US customers.

This shoe is available in one width - MEDIUM Natural-Shape, as highlighted below:

RUGGED UPPER

The upper is made of durable materials that stand up to the abuses of trails, and also daily wear and tear.

MOUNTAIN-TO-TOWN OUTSOLE

Engineered with a low profile rubber tread that combines the best of both worlds: ample traction on trails, AND excellent durability on pavement.

LOW HEEL DROP

With 4mm of drop, compared to the traditional 12mm of drop, the Trailhead naturally decreases heel-striking for a more natural gait and healthier posture.

FIRM CUSHIONING

When your foot is on too soft of cushion, you end up with pain and discomfort. We've formulated a firm EVA midsole that'll keep your feet happy all day long.

Reviews Summary
Customers say these shoes are versatile and comfortable for various activities, from daily wear to hiking and work. Many appreciate the wide toe box and lightweight construction. Common feedback includes the need to size up, typically by half to a full size, as these shoes run smaller than standard sizing. Reviewers frequently mention the shoes' durability and quality construction. While most find them comfortable out of the box with no break-in period, some note the toe box could be wider. The grip performs well on trails and rocky surfaces. Many customers are repeat buyers who own multiple pairs.

Fits like a glove but could use some improvement!

I purchased the Trailhead initially in Cosmic Blue in size 10. I normally wear size 9.5 or 10. I found that the Trailhead fit like a glove but the upper around the toe area did not give as much as I am used to. I am coming from Merrell shoes. To me the best shoes I have owned are the Merrell Wildwood GTX. The second best are the Merrell Nova 3 GTX.

I was looking for a shoe that would actually be able to replace the Nova 3 GTX's in comfort, ability, grip, maneuverability, flexibility, and waterproofing as the Nova 4 went in a completely different direction as a shoe, losing the mobility for standing and walking comfort only, and lost the Vibram sole and went with Merrell's own waterproofing instead of a gore-tex waterproofing, both were inferior!

The Trailhead in Cosmic Blue looked amazing in the pictures but the one that I received was a lighter blue which was off putting! The toe box protection hardness meant that when I did movements like squatting onto the toes, or lifted my toes my second toe would impact with the hard material at the top in an uncomfortable way. I needed to order a 10.5 to get my second toe to lift into the mesh area and not hurt.

While the Merrell Nova GTX 3 fits like a glove as well and has toe protection it is not as hard and the mesh goes further up so it feels much better when implementing maneuvers than the Trailhead does. I ended up ordering the Trailhead in Stormy Night in the hopes of getting a good looking color scheme. Because I wanted to…

Good daily shoe but with sizing issues

Comfortable but run very small. I ordered a half size bigger and still had to return it for a full size larger, and it is still pretty tight, especially the toe box. I was hoping they would break in and get better but after a month or so, still no deal. I guess I will deal with the pinky toe pain. Furthermore, I got these shoes to help with multiple military related foot injuries, Planter Fasciitis, Achilles Tendonitis and sesamoiditis. Beside the tight fit, they do help. Get a wide if you are at all wondering.

    So Close

What makes a perfect shoe? For me, a barefoot design with a wide toe box . The Trailhead shoes come close, but I wish the toe box was wider. They provide a little more cushioning than the Primal shoes and better protection for your feet but still maintain a zero/low drop design. I recently had surgery on my foot and I worry the narrower toe box could lead to problems for me. I do like the protection from the extra 5mm of stack and the more robust tread.
