    Perfect for Alberta Vacation

I bought these for a visit to Banff National Park in late November - early December. The temperature ranged from 0F to low 20sF. We spent most days outside hiking and postholing for 5-6 hours.

TEMP RATING - As with most temperature ratings, 10F is not the comfort rating - only the “your toes probably won’t fall off” rating. I sized up half a size so I could wear merino wool ski socks as a liner for polartec fleece booties. I am still able to comfortably wear normal hiking socks though. Supposedly the polartec adds 5-10F to the rating. Even though doubling up gave me less space than I’m used to, I was pleased to still be able to move my toes around. I stayed warmer than my man who wore danners and didn’t have space to wiggle his toes for better circulation.

WATERPROOFING - While I got up to my mid-thigh in snow, my soft shell pants had built-in gaiters and the snow was dry powder. My feet stayed bone dry the whole time for days in a row. I do bring a portable boot dryer when I adventure travel. I didn’t feel like I truly needed it this trip, but I used it anyway because of how nice it is to slip into warm boots on a cold morning. I got the sense that the waterproofing was pretty good, but I didn’t torture-test it.

OTHER - I got nasty friction burns on my outer shins. Not sure how. I did multiple break-in hikes in these boots at home. I’m guessing that maybe it is from tucking my base layer bottoms into my socks, then my bottoms pull at my shins when I hike. I didn’t feel…

    Finally, an awesome fitting boot

Where have these been my whole life? I have bad feet as a result of Lyme disease, one foot having had surgery with pins. I’ve never had boots I could wear comfortably to pheasant hunt in. For the first time in years, I hunted all day and my feet didn’t hurt. The side zip is awesome. Love the fit and the ankle support as well. Now, if you could make a taller boot.

    Great boots.

I like the looks and feel of my new Breck boots. They are very comfy and warm. Unfortunately , the left one makes my foot ache and I'm not sure why. Both ankles have screws, plates and tension wires in them from surgery, but the left boot must compress my foot somehow and makes it ache.
