    Men's Primal 2 Slate

Posted by IChingUChing on Jun 14th 2017

First of all, this is a quality, well crafted shoe made with attention to detail and design. I have a EE wide forefoot and a high instep; these fit me comfortably. I am especially happy with the fit as I am a woman with wide feet and these fit me. I was concerned that the heel would be to big but not at all. The bit of extra room in the toe box described on the website drew me to try these and I loved the shoes from the first. No breakin required, but I was happy when the new shoe smell of them dissipated. Sizing was true and the fit worked once I removed the liner.

    Really Excellent Shoe

Posted by Steve on May 19th 2017

These are definitely the most comfortable things I have put on my feet, ever. I am not a huge fan of the mesh pattern but everything else about these shoes is fantastic. They are more flexible than the other Lems I have (Boulder Boot and Mariner). They are also a tad bit larger; I ordered a 46 in all after trying the 45 Boulder Boot and it was too small. The Mariner fits the same and is a good size with no socks, but the Primal 2 is larger. I don't think I could wear it without socks. You might want to consider this depending on how you are planning to wear them.

    Good casual and athletic shoe.

Posted by Tim on May 11th 2017

These work well as both casual shoes as well as minimalist running shoes. They have more protection than the ultra-minimalist shoes, but no padding. They are comfortable to run in on gravel but retain good ground feel.

    Happy feet

Posted by Unknown on Apr 24th 2017

Making the switch to this shoe from Nike/Adidas/New Balance/Vans etc. have made such a huge difference in my feet. With wide feet, my feet can now splay properly in my shoe. I recommend to anyone wanting to free their feet from the torture of mainstream shoe companies. Looking to buy my second pair and/or Boulder boot in the near future.

These shoes are amazing! They let you feel the ground beneath your feet with out getting all the cuts and scraps of actual barefoot hiking. They are comfortable, and I love the wide toe box! The upper material seems ok, but I don't think it will stand up to much hiking or scrampling around cliffs and any other rocky surfaces. Overall, I am very pleased with these shoes and hope them give me many years of use.

This is a great minimal shoe. I have suffered from Plantar Faciitis for years. After moving to minimalist shoes i have had no issues. This has become my goto work shoe. The light cushioning is just enough for being on your feet throughout the day. I am really enjoying the Primal and find the toe box less pronounced then on the leather version.

    New Favorite Shoes

Posted by Ben Stephan on Apr 16th 2017

I have never bought shoes that felt so close to being barefoot. The soles are protective enough to keep your feet safe while also being flexible enough that I can easily transition between flat footed and on my toes. I have already ordered a pair of 9to5 shoes from LEMS and I can't wait for them to arrive!

I don't usually write reviews but I just realized that I've had my primal 2's for 2 years. These are my everyday go to shoe and they are just now starting to wear out. I have never had a favorite shoe last this long. I wore them hiking the other day and my feet got wet in the squishy ground. These shoes are so breathable that when coupled with my wool socks I barely noticed. Super lightweight and comfortable! Highly recommend. Will be buying another pair of primal 2's soon.

    Outstanding and extremely comfortable

Posted by John on Mar 5th 2017

I have never before worn minimalist shoes. But I wanted to feel if I would be able to appreciate a zero drop shoe with a super wide toe box. And I have to say that I love them! I'm going to be purchasing the 9-5 shoes next, so I can wear them all day at work. Great product. Only issue is how strong the chemical order is when they first arrived. But after a week in the garage, the smell was gone and now I wear them all the time when outside the home!!

Hands down my favorite shoe that I have owned. They are light weight with plenty of room for my toes to move and breathe. Plenty of support around the upper foot to not feel sloppy while walking or that quick sprint. Will definitely be getting a third pair in the near future.

    1 year review

Posted by Chris on Jan 5th 2017

I got the Primal's to wear as a casual shoe and it is great except for the outsole. The outsole of these shoes is not very durable and has worn much faster than I would have liked. After one year I've the heel and forefoot have a lot of a wear and I don't think I'll get much more use out of them. Other shoes that I've worn as a casual shoe that are similar from a minimalist perspective had had outsoles that have had much less wear. I really wish LEMS had a more durable/longer lasting outsole as rest of the shoe is fantastic.

Don't ever want to buy a different shoe

Posted by Evan on Dec 6th 2016

I made two mistakes with these shoes, but still they are the best sneakers I have ever worn. My feet feel strong and healthy. My mistakes were buying a size 44 (or US 10), as I am usually a US 10.5. I took the insole out and I was okay because it gave me some more room. The next mistake was putting them in the dryer and washing machine. I think they shrunk quite a bit after doing this, so I will only hand wash in cold water now.. After this my toes were compressed with every step, but I was still loving the shoes. I still put many miles into them (mostly walking). I just put on a new pair that I bought from the recent sale, same color, in size 45 now (US 11) and I love it.

    Loving them!

Posted by Rob on Oct 27th 2016

These shoes are super comfortable! I use them every day and just love how versatile these things are. The first day I wore these I was stopped literally about a dozen times by people wanting to know what brand they were and where they could get them. The only thing I don't use them for is running, but that's just because my knees are pretty destroyed from my time in the Army so I use Altras for their extra cushioning. I'm sure anyone else, especially those who like zero drop shoes, would love these for running. My only critique of these, and it's minor, is that what the soles get wet (God knows it happens a lot here in Seattle) they squeak quite a bit on tile flooring. I have noticed this has been happening less the more I wear them though. Overall I can't say enough good things about these guys! Next up: Boulder boots!

I bought the Slate because that was left in my size, do not regret as it is not actually "boring" but not crazy colourful like some of the other options so I can wear it on more occasions. These are super comfortable and I love the extra roomy toebox. The first pair had something really wrong with the right sole, felt like some rock was embedded in it and then the big toe area started ungluing as well. Thankfully Lems replaced it and the 2nd pair has been pretty good. Excellent customer service at that. One downside so far is the interior fabric in some areas seems to be wearing out and fraying awfully soon... Now I will compare to the Merrell Trail Gloves which I had: - They are much more practical in that I can wear it even in the rain without getting soggy feet. They also don't look as "sporty" meaning I can get away with wearing it on more casual occasions. - The thicker sole also makes it more comfortable on rocky terrain. - On the flip side, the are not as good with the ground feel as the Trail Gloves and it doesn't fit like a glove that I can do my usual trail running with the same confidence. - The Trail Glove sole is long wearing like crazy and these things are very well built. Primal 2's are close, but not quite as good. On the other hand, I've had some wet surfaces which were very slippery in the Trail Glove but the Primal 2's handled it just fine. The Primal 2 does wear very well and it still looks close to new after almost a year of continuous use. One thing common to Primal 2 and Mariner, there is something with either the glue or sole material that doesn't smell pleasant in a new shoe.... Overall though, I'm happy with the shoe, currently my favourite all-around shoe.

Just what I was looking for

Posted by Bryan on Oct 11th 2016

Ever since I started running in barefoot/minimalist style shoes, I've been on the lookout for casual, every-day shoes with the same features. I bought a pair of Primal2's just before heading to Disney and promptly put 110K+ steps and 50+ miles on them. They were great the entire trip. Super comfortable with no hot spots or blisters (worn without socks)...no need for any break-in. They dried quickly after getting caught in the rain. Already planning to grab another pair of Primals and maybe some Nine2Fives as well.

A perfect fit for a bare foot.

Posted by Cody on Oct 10th 2016

I have worn my Primal 2's every day in the three weeks since I received them simply because they are far more comfortable than any other shoe I own. The wide toebox follows the curve of my splayed barefooter toes, while the thin flexible sole and breathable upper keep my feet light and cool. I want to replace all my shoes with Lems, I just cant afford to quite yet.

These are by far the best every day shoes I have ever owned. As far as durability, these things have held up to everything I've thrown at them. I was even forced to use them while tubing down a river and thought they would be ruined, but after a quick rinse off, they were as good as new. They've handled hiking in every terrain I've thrown at them so far, days and nights out on the town, and even biking on some rough mountain bike pedals. As far as comfort, these minimalist shoes do it right. Many other shoes don't give adequate room to allow your toes to expand to absorb impact, but these shoes have taken that into consideration. The range of flexibility on these shoes is nothing short of amazing. A friend of mine has the Vibram five finger shoes which don't seem nearly as flexible as the Lem's. This is my first pair of Lem's and I plan on sticking with the brand for quite some time. Great job, Lem's! Keep up the awesome work.

    New Favorite Shoes!

Posted by Tanner Llewellyn on Sep 5th 2016

I recently discovered Lems online. The Primal 2's are my first pair of minimalist shoes, although I was already accustomed to walking in basic sneakers like Vans and PF Flyers. The Primal 2's were instantly comfortable right out of the box, so much so that I was immediately inspired to go on a 2 mile walk upon receiving them. The minimalist, zero drop design didn't take much getting used to in my case. My heels were just a little sore that first night after the 2 mile walk from using muscles I wasn't used to but by the next day I was fine. Since receiving them 2 weeks ago, I've been wearing the Primal 2's almost exclusively ever since. I've been wearing the same pair for morning exercise walks, wearing around town and also to work. (I'm not a runner.) I can get by with these shoes at the office and they are so comfortable to wear all day in that setting! I don't think I will need the dressier leather Nine2Five Lems for work. I also like how the Primal 2 is vegan. This weekend I went for a five mile hike in the Primal 2's on some hilly terrain and they did great! Wearing shoes like these really makes you mindful of your posture, balance and steps -- in a good way. Even though these shoes are lighter and much more flexible than a traditional trail runner or hiking shoe, I don't feel like I'm at any more risk in the Primal 2's on the trail. Because you feel the ground so well you know what's under you. I'm hoping these will be warm enough to wear through the winter, and I think they should be OK in colder (non-snowy) conditions with thicker socks. My only other concern is durability since they are so lightweight but so far so good. I might get an additional pair in a different color to ensure that I can wear Lems shoes 100% of the time. Note: I love the Primal 2's so much that I also ordered the Boulder Boots. Even though they look really cool, I just didn't quite dig the Boulder Boot as much so I'm going to return it. The Boulder Boot doesn't fit quite as well and the over the ankle design feels like overkill. Only in very cold, snowy or slushy conditions would the Boulder Boot have any advantages over the Primal 2, so most of the time I could get by with just the Primal 2.

    My favorite shoe!

Posted by Joe on Aug 23rd 2016

I love my Lem's Primal 2! They are an amazing shoe. They feel extremely comfortable and I love wearing them. I've been looking for shoes that basically keep your feet feeling barefoot and they do the job excellently. These do have a bit of padding but you can remove it if you so choose. At first I wasn't sure if I ordered the wrong size (I'm a 12-12.5 U.S. in most shoes and ordered a 46/12.5) because they felt loose. Part of the reason for that (from what I've read) is because these shoes allow your foot to splay out as it naturally would instead of keeping it in a tight, rigid position like most standard sneakers. Most of us will notice our foot does widen and lengthen depending on how much pressure we apply to it when standing. I have been playing most of the sports I usually play in these shoes and I like how light and nimble my feet feel. I've also done a lot of hiking and city-walking in these shoes and they feel amazing. Very light and free. Overall, I really like these shoes and if you aren't sure what size you are, measure your foot and check with the sizing chart. I didn't measure my foot it until after the shoe arrived because I wanted to make sure I ordered the correct size (since it felt large compared to most other shoes). According to their sizing chart I should be a slightly larger size than a 46 but they feel fine to me. Don't worry about the shoe being too large like I did - just measure your foot and buy the appropriate size. It would be great if a 47/13.5 was available for people who have larger feet and/or want to wear extremely thick socks for no reason (or perhaps on custom order?). Also - I love the wide toe-box.

    Give me more

Posted by Devon Matteis on Aug 1st 2016

I searched Pinterest for efficient travel shoes. Luckily o found this Jem. Primal kicks are now my go to. I was worried because I'm a 7.5 more than 8's but the 8 work perfectly. They are true to size though I would still say. The first day I wore them to work all day trying to break them in for a big trip I have. My legs were definitely sore from standing all day in minimalist shoes but my body has quickly adapted. Also, I had not seen them in person and was worried they would be awkward and bulky looking. I was so impressed with the ft and the look of the shoe. So cute and proportioned. Thank you! I will be repping Lems throughout Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii shortly! Boots are next hopefully! 5 STARS

    Great Purchase

Posted by Rowan Cignoni on Jul 27th 2016

I'm in love with these shoes. Every time I lace them up, I feel like I'm going out barefoot - but protected. I can wiggle my toes but still feel securely stuck to the ground without getting blisters. They're so lightweight, I don't even notice them. I'd like to try them out with the toe-spreaders at some point, as well. They're true to fit, also. My one complaint is that they're SO lightweight, so porous, that any kind of dust or dirt on the road or trail works it's way into the fabric and through to my toes all the time - and the Grey colored ones stain so easily with water marks!

I love the idea of minimalist shoes, and have been wearing them for several years now. I usually wear a 42, but for the less I had to go up 1 size larger in order to fit. I have a relatively wide for and for the most part the Lems fit perfectly. However if I leave the insole in even with the correct size the shoe tends to be too tight in the widest point of the top of my foot (near the ball). This is remedied to a point with the removal of the insole. All-in-all I am happy with them and would buy a second pair.

I'm 52 and these are my first minimal shoes. I've worn gooshy athletic shoes all my life. After only 2 months my primal 2's are the only shoes I want to wear. Walking my dog on gravely, rocky dirt roads every morning, hiking in the sierras on the weekends and even walking on concrete hours at a time I hardly think about my feet now. All my life I couldn't wait to rip my shoes off the second I got home...not anymore! I've been on a path to pain free living for some time. Getting my Lems is easily the biggest gain I've had so far. Thank you! Keep up the good work!

I found them as light and restrictive as a pair of loose socks. I feel as if I am cheating; walking around barefoot in public. Actually they are better than barefoot as the soles are just enough to give some protection from stones and such, but without loss of the barefoot feel. Feels so good to be able to spread my toes without restriction. I am anxious to try another style.

I bought these shoes right before my trip to China since we were going to do a lot of walking. We walked around the Great Wall, up a mountain and around lakes and these shoes were really amazing. They were very comfortable but allowed me to use my intrinsic foot muscles the way they should be used during walking! The wide toe box was really great for me because I have bunions on both feet so they were never sore afterwards. They were really light and comfortable even though I was hiking maybe 3-5 miles per day. I like them a lot because I am able to see where in my gait I'm actually compensating and trying to fix it at the same time.

Within a week of switching to Lems, I was almost free of pain. Also ordered and thoroughly enjoy the Lems Mariner shoes. Highly recommended.

These shoes are very comfortable--extremely light. It feels like I am not wearing shoes! I have been wearing them more than I expected to. I bought them to be athletic shoes and now I am wearing them for much more because they are so comfy. It took me a little while to get the sizing right--I normally wear a 7.5 to 8 in other shoes and the size 40 has the right fit.
