    Mens Primal 2 Brown

Posted by Ben W on Jan 23rd 2017

I bought a pair of these four or five years ago when they still had a logo on the side similar to Stem logo. they were dark brown with a light brown thread accent and they were perfect. Years later the mesh is nearly shredded to bits, and the sole is a hairs width from being worn through. I sadly had to retire them and buy a new pair. The new pair is the same dark brown but with dark brown threading, and for some reason purple mesh. I can't say I'm a big fan of the purple, but it doesn't detract from the overall comfort of the shoe. Still the best shoes I've ever worn and I'll continue to wear them for the foreseeable future, I just may pick a different color next time.

Without a shadow of a doubt....the BEST pair of shoes I have EVER owned. And I've owned a lot. I've experimented with everything.....fivefingers, new balance minimus, altra lonepeak, saucony kinvara, vivobarefoot.....but these Lems are AMAZING. Hugely spacious in the toe box, super flexible, very breathable, zero drop, very stylish, etc etc etc. Do yourself and your feet a favour....get a pair....immediately.

Excellent shoes right out of the box. I was glad to add these to my minimalist shoe options (I have Vibrams Five Fingers.) I will be adding a second pair of Lems in the future.

Incredible Comfort! 1 Star off for Color Inaccuracy

Posted by Dan on Dec 18th 2016

These are probably the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn, and I've owned a lot of shoes. If you read others state that they feel like slippers, they are 100% correct. I'm incredibly happy with how these shoes feel. I ALWAYS take my shoes off as soon as I enter my house and I've noticed that I've actually forgotten to take my Lems off a few times, now! The reason that I gave them only 4 stars is because I bought the brown ones and the weaved material actually looks purple. I read it in another review and thought maybe it was a fluke but it really does make the shoes look purple. The photo on this site does not show this at all and I find it a little odd. They should consider either taking a more accurate photo of the shoes or change the color of them. If these actually looked brown, 5 stars!

    One of a kind shoes

Posted by Elias on Dec 5th 2016

I just bought my second pair. The first one lasted three years of heavy use. My feet hate shoes. I've never before found a pair of shoes that is so comfortable and yet rugged enough to hike, and run in. My pair would still be in action if I didn't have freaky pinky toes that rip out the sides of even heavy duty winter boots. These shoes are the best. I recomend them to everyone who's feet have not already been destroyed by raised heels.

Nice shoes although I would have never thought I would step into anything but very protective hiking shoes. These are comphy and ground me. I thought they might have shrunk a tiny bit when left near the dryer but maybe not. Anyway I will be purchasing some for family very soon. I like. Thanks and hope the less material use incorporated is appreciated by customers like me (outpost gift). Love

Believe what you see in the reviews - these really are great. I've had several different minimalist shoes over the last few years and these are, by far, my favorites. Comfortable right out the of box, fits as expected, and so far they seem very durable. I'd give them six stars if I could.

Great shoes, though pictures don't quite match color

Posted by Greg on Nov 3rd 2016

I like the shoes a lot. Very comfortable, lightweight, and surprisingly good grip from the sole. I was a little dismayed when I opened the box though, having ordered the brown. In the pictures it looks like a very deep, chocolate brown but in real life it's much lighter and redder. The mesh sections are almost purplish in direct sunlight. For some reason I was thinking it closer to black and named brown because of the sole, which is a little silly in retrospect. Like I said I very much like the shoes, but the first photo and those where the shoe is squished make it look much darker than it will be on your foot. Some pictures in bright sunlight would probably help.

    My new favorite

Posted by Alex on Oct 21st 2016

More and more I've been getting into the idea of minimalist footwear, after dealing with shin splints and ankle issues. The Lems allow the foot and ankle to move freely, and really helped prevent my annoying (but not painful) ankle popping. I first tried them while I was dealing with some knee issues that prevented me putting weight on my foot and caused quite a bit of pain. A few visits to the chiropractor resolved that, but in the interim I had trouble walking in typical sneakers. No issues with the Lems, my knees instantly felt better. Based on this, any skepticism I had about minimalist shoes disappeared. These are so clearly better for your feet and overall skeletal health. But....there are a couple caveats I've noticed//;// I have the Navy with white soles for reference Cons: -Take on stains and dirt quite easily -Microfiber fabric doesn't resist abrasion, so they're not really appropriate for trail use. It would great if Lems could make a trail ready shoe to compete with the Merrell Vapor Glove, et al -Limited cushioning. Ground feel is great, but sometimes it would be nice to have just a little more underfoot Pros: -Surprisingly comfortable -Amazing flexibility without sacrificing durability, the sole seems like it will last forever -Super light, easy to pack and travel with -Nice simple design that can be worn anywhere. Unlike some the Nike Free, it doesn't scream "running shoe" -Super breathable, you're feet literally don't sweat, and they never seem to develop a smell

Unfortunately my Morton's Neuroma seems to be severe enough that I'll need professional help. HOWEVER, it was obvious that the Primal 2 design made a HUGE difference. After a few hours of having shoes on I typically would feel like someone was going to town on my toes with a plyers in one hand and a screwdriver with the other. Yesterday I wore my Primal 2s for 4 hours and only had minor discomfort. Worth repeating ... Primals made a huge difference! THANKS JC

I've had 2 pairs of these shoes now for about 3 weeks. I walk 2 miles each way to work in them. The shoes look great and are very comfortable. Buying shoes online sight unseen can be daunting but the Lems team were very helpful in helping me determine the right size to get.

These feel great, and I can feel the ground much like 5-Finger running shoes. My feet stay cool as well, something I look for in shoes. They do not require socks, and fit great. I may start thinking about other Lems shoes, just from my experience with this pair!

    Great Shoes

Posted by Carl on Oct 2nd 2016

I am on my third pair of Lem's Primal shoes. I have a work uniform that requires brown shoes and it is informally expected that they be a hiking style one for my position. I knew I wanted a minimal shoe and Lems had (I think still has) the only brown hiking-style model with any decent reviews. Work is one of the only places I wear enclosed shoes, but I definitely wear them quite a bit for all the time I spend there. They are so light, flexible, and comfortable. Ground feel is about what I have come to expect from any minimal enclosed shoe; although I do have a pair of another company's minimal shoes that no longer feel comfortable or minimal enough compared to these Lems. If you are used to going barefoot (or want to move in that direction) most of the time but have to wear shoes for whatever reason, these are probably as comfortable as you are going to get. Anything else is not going to be minimal enough while still passing for shoes.

Previously owning about 5 pairs of vibram five fingers, I was a bit skeptical about having my toes constricted inside a shoe and the difference if ground feel... however, I was also totally over catching my pinky toe on random things, roots and rocks while hiking, etc. Wow....the primal 2's have definitely impressed me! I've had these for a few weeks now and are loving them. There is not as much groundfeel as the sole is thicker, but removing the insole before hiking is a nice option to regain some of that. Now, I will be getting the boot and 9 to 5s. Thanks LEMS for an incredibly well made shoe.

Fantastic shoe. They are so light, it almost feels like I'm barefoot. My feet fit snuggly, but still free. They make a great casual shoe and a great running shoe. Quite possibly the best shoe I've ever worn. They do run small, so I take one size larger in this shoe than the Nine 2 Five, which are also a fantastic shoe.

    Very comfortable

Posted by Nick on Jul 27th 2016

Very comfortable, nice wide toe box. I took the shoes on a 2 week vacation up the California coast - lots of walking around beach towns and SF. I've got another 2 weeks using them as my daily commuting shoes on the subway and for walking the dog. So far, no problems! they look great (unlike fivefingers), feel great. my only complaint is that the laces are a bit too short for me. They are barely long enough to tie properly, pulled to an average or slightly loose tightness.

I bought these shoes because my job wouldn't let me wear my five fingers ( I work in surgery) and they turned out to be one of the best pair of shoes I've ever owned. I walk five to six miles a day at work and I've worn these 8 hrs a day five days a week for the past 1 and 1/2 years without issue. Going zero drop/barefoot/minimalist 4 years ago helped my chronic knee pain and helped strengthen my feet. I would recommend to anyone. The only negative is that they seem to run a bit on the big side. If you have normal shaped/ sized feet order a size down. They stretch pretty good.

Why is this required? I don't have a title.

Posted by Nik on Jun 13th 2016

My first thought on opening the shipping box was DAMN THESE STINK. Then I opened the box the shoes were in! Seriously, these things reek of hydrocarbons & glue; they'll be offgassing for weeks—outside. I put them on to try anyhow, of course, and for the first time my feet felt at home in a pair of shoes. They fit really well. I've always had to buy two sizes large to fit the width of my feet, but these are nearly perfect in both length and width (my left foot is a little wider than my right—but nobody sells left & right shoes separately). I wore them over to a friend's place, and he complained of the stink. There are two things in the physical design I would change. The heel is a bit too round, so my feet wobble sideways in walking, and it's really hard to balance on one foot. The other is that the little heel loop is too short. I can't hold it with a pinch grip, and I can't fit a finger into the loop to pull on it.

    Primal-2-Eclipse Size 40

Posted by Khanita on May 1st 2016

I bought these shoes right before my trip to China since we were going to do a lot of walking. We walked around the Great Wall, up a mountain and around lakes and these shoes were really amazing. They were very comfortable but allowed me to use my intrinsic foot muscles the way they should be used during walking! The wide toe box was really great for me because I have bunions on both feet so they were never sore afterwards. They were really light and comfortable even though I was hiking maybe 3-5 miles per day. I like them a lot because I am able to see where in my gait I'm actually compensating and trying to fix it at the same time.

    Feet therapy!

Posted by Patti on Apr 29th 2016

After watching the video on the Lems website about the benefits of a zero sole, I decided to try the Primal 2 shoe. After suffering over a year with the pain of capsulitis, I was willing to try almost anything -- and had in fact already experimented with various other brands of shoes and insoles. Within a week of switching to Lems, I was almost free of pain. Also ordered and thoroughly enjoy the Lems Mariner shoes. Highly recommended.

I am so glad I took a chance on these shoes. They are extremely comfortable on my complaining feet! The wide toe box is great and they're great to walk in. Narrow enough in the heel to avoid sliding which is often a problem for me. And they are stinking cute.

I had been suffering from plantar fasciosis. I had tried many different remedies without success. After I ran across Dr. Ray McClanahan's approach to treatment with correct toes and his recommendation for Lems, I ordered both and only after about three weeks, I have had a major reduction in pain!! I am convinced that Lems are definitely the best way to allow feet to function like they were designed. When I am not going barefoot, I am wearing Lems and correctoes! I also want to give a shout out to Lems customer service! The first pair I ordered was a little too small and customer service was very efficient in exchanging them for the correct size! Keep up the great work!

So far so good :) I don't use the shoes for running so I can't comment of that, but those are some really nice shoes to walk around in. I had to get used to them, as the zero-drop changes the posture and make your whole body makes adjustments so I felt it for a week in my back, but now they are just wonderful. make me feel very free, agile and they are very comfortable. They look good and get good attention.

Posted by Ren on Apr 23rd 2016

I love, love, love these shoes. They've given me back my walking freedom! No more foot pain at all. Since purchasing my Primal 2s I regularly take walks that last anywhere between 30-60 minutes at a time. This was an impossibility in my last pair of walking shoes - my bunion made walking just too painful. Not anymore. I WILL be buying more Primal 2s in future - no doubt about that.

These shoes are very comfortable--extremely light. It feels like I am not wearing shoes! I have been wearing them more than I expected to. I bought them to be athletic shoes and now I am wearing them for much more because they are so comfy. It took me a little while to get the sizing right--I normally wear a 7.5 to 8 in other shoes and the size 40 has the right fit.

    Great Shoes

Posted by Martin Tsachev on Apr 21st 2016

I was a bit worried if I would get the right fit online, especially as it's not the size I normally purchase but it turned out fantastic in the end. Super light shoes, super comfortable to wear, thick soles so great for everyday use in the city. Only downside I can think of is that the shoe strings are a bit shorter than my preference. I can barely tie them together. I've been wearing almost exclusively barefoot shoes since Oct 2014 and I learnt the hard way to look for shoes with thicker soles after getting chronic pain in my feet. This pair is fantastic for starting with barefoot. I'm quite happy with my purchase and I would definitely recommend Lems Shoes to friends who want to go into barefoot.

Normally my feet are killing me after about 10 hours on the first day! .... Then along came Lems Primal 2's! I've now worn the Primal's at 3 of these events and my feet are fabulous andpain free the entire weekend! Thank You Lems!

    Great Shoes, Runs Small

Posted by Russ Davis on Apr 20th 2016

I bought a pair of Stems in October of 2011, and since then I've picked up the Boulder Boot and the Nine-to-Five. Loved them all. These are great shoes, but the Primal 2 size 42 is significantly smaller than the 42 in any of the other models I've owned. I'm continuing to wear them in the hopes that they stretch out or loosen up, but so far it hasn't happened. Overall it's a fantastic shoe, I just wish the sizing was more consistent, it's such a hassle to process returns by mail.

    Hurt my feet

Posted by Natasha Tucker on Apr 19th 2016

I wear minimalist shoes every day. Running, biking and working. These shoes were okay at first, but after an hour or so at work I could tell something was wrong. Right where the bend of my toes on each side hurt SO much. So I didn't wear them for a few days and asked my friends if they had the same issues. They all said they had but it stopped after a week or so. So I just dealt with the pain for a few more days to see if it got better. I didn't. So I got a hold of the warranty dept, since in the note they sent with the shoes bragging about their return policy. Well, folks, don't wear the shoes outside if you think you may have to return them. They said I could send them back to have someone review them, but if I wore them outside, I couldn't return them. I just gave them to a friend, who is having the same issue

    Excellent foot wear

Posted by Aaron on Apr 18th 2016

I wore out my previous shoes to the sub-sole desperately trying to find a shoe with a sturdy thin sole and wide toe box. There are many minimalist shoes on the market, but for some reason the toe box is always so narrow. The instant I put my foot in this shoe, I was relieved. These are the best shoes I have ever worn and will be purchasing Lems for a long time to come.

I enjoy wearing Lems shoes. The minimal construction and appropriate toe-box width don't constrict my feet as most other conventional shoes have. My feet have strengthened and widened significantly since I started wearing Lems regularly. Thus, I've had to purchase a larger size within just a few months. Had I anticipated this expansion and welcomed relief, I would've initially ordered a larger pair. Additionally, they are very light, comfortable and conservative in appearance. Thank you, Lems.

    Don't Hesitate!

Posted by Nicole on Apr 15th 2016

I am not a shoe person. In fact, my sandals and snow boots were gifts and the last time I purchased shoes was years ago when they were on clearance and I thought it was a good idea to have on hand. Recently I started hiking more and I could no longer wear flip flops with all the loose leaf on the ground and wearing a 28 lb. toddler on my back. I started to do research and every comparison and review I read put Lems first. I was extremely hesitant to buy them. I have no sizing experience since I don't buy shows and I just don't line them in general. I finally decided to just go with it and buy them. I am so glad I did. My feet get squished in traditional shoes since I have worn sandals for the last 15 years at least. They're very comfortable and flexible. I can still feel the ground, though for me it still very much feels like a shoe, my partner got a pair as well and he always wears shoes and he says they're super thin and he feels everything. He loves them as well and is excited to wear them! Absolutely worth the investment. Healthy shoes that protect my feet... and a huge bonus is that we're supporting a small company that cares about its product and customers.
