    Primal 2

This is my 2nd pair of Primal 2 shoes in 6 months. Nothing wrong with the first pair, just loved them and what they did for my feet. I use them without the insole and my arch issues have gone away. Awesome minimal shoes!

Great shoes! I love the zero drop and flexibility of the shoe. It is very lightweight and feels amazing. The only downside is walking on hard surfaces because my feet feel all the impact on the hard floor. I am an advocate for minimalist shoes now.

    Excellent Shoe

Posted by Michael on May 21st 2017

The quality of the shoe far outweighed my expectations. It was everythingIi hoped for. Unfortunately the "minimalistness" of the shoe proved too much for my offset hips and I am not able to wear them over long periods of time because they hurt my feet. If you are someone who is accustomed to the minimalistic shoe lifestyle, then I would highly recommend the shoes!

    Primal 2 works very well

I have peripheral neuropathy, which means my feet and lower legs are numb and the nerve signals are not going up and down the leg normally. My balance is affected. With the Lems Primal 2 I have much better contact with the floor and my balance is much improved, for instance when doing tai chi. Also, they are more comfortable than any slippers I've ever had.

I first bought a pair of Boulder Boots at retail - I was looking for lightweight boots to travel with and the Boulder Boots fit all my needs. I bought a pair of Merrell Barefoot a couple of years ago and wore them out and have been looking for a replacement and found them here. Lightweight, comfortable, easy packing. I am going to be getting a leather pair soon to wear when the occasion demands.

These shoes are reasonable. They are lightweight and quite flexible. Shipping is overpriced and very slow, disappointingly slow. Exchange shipping is also not speedy, and you'll pay for that too. Given the price, it is surprising that shipping is not included.

Best daily shoes I have ever owned!

Posted by Marea on Mar 31st 2017

I purchased my pair of Primals for two reasons. First, I am very active in my work and appreciate a nice looking shoe (I chose all black) that can keep up. Second, I wanted a pair of shoes for a long vacation in South Africa last year for which I anticipated hiking and climbing. Now, I wear them almost every day. They are absolutely comfortable with the wider tow box and breathable, yet durable, mesh fabric. My pair show no sign of wearing out anytime soon, but when they do I will definitely be purchasing a replacement pair.

I've been wearing minimalist shoes for 11 years and have grown to love the biomechanical properties offered. In seeking a more refined look, I stumbled upon Lems and decided to give them a try. I was a little concerned by the 9mm stack height but, having worn the shoes for only 2 days, have found this to be a non-issue. The Primal 2 offers exceptional proprioceptive feedback (even more with the insole romoved) and feels wonderful udnerfoot. The shoes already feel like they are molding to my feet and, I'm certain, will only get better as the outsole wears. The shoe passes muster. Now the question is, what other colors do I want.

First of all, the sizing guide is accurate. The shoes themselves are very comfortable and pleasant to wear. I use them as casual shoes and I'm happy of my buying. The toe box is wide which is a good thing. Th eheel part is maybe a bit overly wide but it's still fine. The sol is very flexible and it makes the walking sweet.

    why wear anything else?

Posted by Kyle on Jan 26th 2017

I was hesitant to purchase another pair of shoes online without trying them on first. I have a lot of difficulty finding a shoe that accommodates the width of my foot without being to long. I bit the bullet and put in my lems order. I can't even begin to describe how amazing the shoe felt the first time I put it on. It was the first shoe that I ever put on and didn't want to take off. They are quickly replacing almost every other shoe I own. I can't think of any show that I enjoy wearing as much as my lems. Thank you lems! I finally have a shoe that fits my foot.

    Absolutely Incredible.

Posted by Jason on Jan 21st 2017

These are by far the most all-around great pair of shoes I've ever worn. I've been walking in them all day, every day for a little over a year and the tread is just a little worn, which is outstanding considering how thin the soles actually are. The wide toe box is amazing and fits correcttoes very well. They are very light and give the best tactile feel of the ground for how durable they actually are. The rest of the shoe has completely held up. No tears or worn spots on anything other than the heel of the insert, which has just barely worn through the fabric of the insert. They can also be worn without socks because of the soft interior. An added bonus that I hadn't thought of when I purchased them is that, while not actually being waterproof, if you have a great pair of Injinji toe socks and you step in a puddle, it doesn't bother your feet all day. It just feels like your bare feet are wet and not like you're walking around in a cotton swampland. Best pair of shoes I've ever worn. I always recommend them.

    Very happy

Posted by Chris on Jan 3rd 2017

These were my first pair of minimalist shoes. I came from Converse One Stars after reading about the benefits of a minimalist shoe, but was hesitant to buy the Lems without being able to first try them on. I found that my feet move around much more in the Lems than other shoes so I needed to return my first pair and reorder a size up. After that, the experience has been great. There is a some glue visible on the seams like some reviews mention but it's not enough to bother me (got the black on black). Other reviews mention the branding written all over the shoe. I agree that it's a bit much but it's not noticeable unless you pick the shoe up and examine it, so I can live with it. I've been using these as gym shoes and everyday shoes for about 9 months. They breathe very well and don't smell, even after a sweaty workout. I love the way they fit and how light they are on my feet. I plan to buy a pair of the Boulder boots too.

This is actually my 3rd pair of Lems. I have another pair of the Primal 2's that I wore out entirely from wearing them running for 8 months or so. Anyways, they're super comfortable, breathable, very flexible, and all around great minimal shoes. I will say that next time I'll probably go with a color again instead of black on black... they're a bit too uniform for me but they'll certainly work :)

    Solid Minimalist Shoe

Posted by J Rudd on Nov 30th 2016

These shoes are comfortable, stylish, and provide the wearer with something many minimalist shoes go without, laces. I've worn slip on shoes like ZEM for years and it's refreshing to have laces again. The only con I can think of is that the sole is a bit thicker than I'm used to. It's still better than wearing a classic sneaker though.

    I LOVE my Lems

Posted by Adam Musselman on Oct 30th 2016

I work in the service industry which keeps me on my feet for a minimum of 10 hours a day. In addition to this I run a few miles every morning before walking to (and from) work. Long story short I'm on my feet a lot. I've gone through just about every type of work shoe/boot/clog out there and none come close to how comfortable I am in my Lems. There was a bit of an adjustment period while my body remembered what is was like to walk "barefoot" and I honestly had my doubts at first. Once the muscles in my legs and feet got the hang of it however, I realized I didn't want to walk any other way. I'm back now to purchase a pair of Boulder Boots soon to be followed by a pair of Nine2five. (While I love my Primal 2's they are admittedly not ideal for work) Great job guys. You've got a customer for life in me!!

I'm a Military guy that puts equal amount of time on gravel, treadmills, and weight room floors. These shoes are awesome. I used to wear VFFs, but the last two pairs I owned fell apart after my third or fourth week. Also, the goofy looking factor weighed heavy on my conscious. These shoes give me the same sense of oneness with the ground as VFFs without the embarrassment of running around in absurd foot gloves. Only critique: these shoes make my feet blazing hot. Definitely could use some breathability tweaks on v 2.1/3.0. Having said that, I'll deal with sweaty feet over having to completely kick off normal gym shoes before getting in a squat rack, and I'll certainly take the sweat over feeling ridiculous in "toe shoes." Rock on Lems team. I'll be back.

The shoes are excellent except that we couldn't know exactly what size to get. The writeup on the website said to get them slightly larger than normal, because their sizes are slightly smaller. So we did, only the shoes were still too small. We tried to make them work anyway. By the time we found that the shoe just was not going to work (too small; toes started hurting over two weeks of trying) the rubber side of the shoe started peeling away from the fabric. It seems that perhaps the shoes were too deteriorated to reasonably expect to be able to return them. It would have been better to know what size we would be getting, like for most shoes that you buy online (my Vibrams were exactly what the size chart and my measurements predicted!)

I've been a long-time minimalist wearer. It had come to time for me to try out a new company however, and by a stroke of luck found Lems. Of course looking for the most minimalist available here, I settled on the Primal 2. Overall these are the best minimalist shoes I've ever had! To be fair, my experiences are not vast, but I mean this in several areas. Esthetically these are exactly what I'm looking for. In one fashion an obvious minimalist, and yet not meriting that "nice shoes...?" type of reaction. They're casual, not screaming "I'm a hipster shoe!". The only weak-ish point is the sole because of the thickness and therefore slight lack of sensory perception in comparison to my usual choice. Yet I suspect this is due to an interest in essentially making these shoes strong where many minimalists are weak: being worth the purchase in the long run. I mean of course durability. Though of course only time can really tell, I divine a stable design in these that in my opinion looks like it'll last. I would estimate that there is 75% sensory perception at least by comparison to my usual. Because of this, I suspect the minimalist feel will reach its prime midway through wearing them down. Finally one little detail which is very nice for me: how quickly they dry. For those who have been into minimalists as everyday shoes, and wearing them without socks, you understand the pain of cleaning and drying to keep that oh-so-natural smell at bay. My habit has for years now been to take them into the shower, rinse, disinfecting wipe, rinse, then put them under a small fan while I sleep. Sometimes therefore I would need to have a back-up pair because the ones worn the previous day were still slightly damp. These dry far faster, and so far I have worn them every day since they arrived! I'd recommend these to anyone!

    Ethical, Reliable, Fashionable

Posted by Jordan on Oct 4th 2016

I had a very specific check list. I wanted a versatile shoe that I could wear to work or the gym, that had lots of mesh as my feet can get sweaty. I also wanted it to be vegan, in alignment with my personal ethics. I wanted a pair of shoes that wouldn’t fall apart in a few months, and lastly I wanted it to be fashionable. It was difficult to find what I was looking for, I couldn’t find it in stores and there were less than a handful of options online, The Primal 2 being the clear winner. I was a little turned off by the price at first but they are worth every penny. You really do get what you pay for. So i put in my order being hesitant, It’s risky business to drop a hundred dollars on something you never tried on. I was also scared by some people saying the shoe ran small. I normally wear a size 10.5 so I went for the size 44 suggested and they fit perfectly. To help anybody else with that concern here are the actual measurements of my feet. 10.5 inches in length (26.67 cm) and at the widest their width is 4 inches (10 cm) When I got the shoe they were even nicer looking than I expected. They had the Lems logo on the side (which I normally don’t like being a billboard for a company, but I really support this one) There was no “Live Easy and Minimal” on the heel how it shows on the pictures and how some people have complained about, I was happy to see it gone also. When I put them on they felt a little snug, and I wasn’t used to the zero drop, so the first few days I was a little unsure. My feet hurt after my shifts at work. But with all shoes there is a adjustment period, and within a few days my shoes loosened up and felt amazing. The pain disappeared, I come home from work feeling amazing! After a month of wear I haven’t witnessed any deterioration in any of the materials, the stitching, the soles everything looks mint and these are the only shoe I have worn for the last month. I tend to put more wear on my shoes than I would say the average person. I get so many compliments on my Primal 2’s and I rant and rave about them when people bring them up, They are such cute functional shoes. I would buy these again in a heartbeat. I am also super interested in their vegan boulder boot! This is a company that knows what they are doing, and knows design.

I love these shoes! With the extra sole taken out, they are extremely thin and comfortable. The wide toe box is perfect for using Correct Toes, and super comfortable without. The all black is sleek, except for the obvious Lems writing on the side, which I could have gone without. Overall, great comfortable shoe that is now a staple in my wardrobe!

I usually wear 2e 11.5 shoes and the 45 size fits perfectly if I remove the insole and wear skinny socks. Definitely can feel every pebble and bump in the path. Jogging feels better than trying to walk quickly. Seem to have held up well so far!

I just sent this to the Lem team, via an email, because I love these shoes so much "Hi, I was fortunate enough to win a pair Lems Primal 2's from weartested.org contest and I have put about 200 miles of mostly road running, including the New Orleans Half Marathon (which I ended up finishing 10 min faster then my goal time!), on them and I wanted to let you know that I LOVE them. I suffered from shin splints and knee problems with traditional running shoes, and didn't think I was ever going to be able to run again, before I decided to try the minimalist route (I'm a bit of an unhipster in that I got into minimalist running when everyone began fleeing, lol!). Well it worked! I wore Vibram Five Fingers and Merrell Trail Gloves before getting my Primals. I liked them and I still wear them from time to time and grateful they allowed me to run again but the Primals are the perfect shoe which I never thought I would find. I love the wide toe box, flexible with just the right amount of stiffness (my Merrells cave in at the toe box), zero drop, a little support and I love how you only have to tie the laces snug and they never come loose. I will definitely be purchasing another pair when these wear out (although they do not appear to be anytime soon). Please do not discontinue or change the design of them. They are perfect! Also anytime someone asks for a recommendation for a minimalist shoe, I recommend the Primal 2's. I also like the look of some of your other shoes (especially the mariner) and will definitely consider them for my future purchases)."

    Everything I wanted

Posted by Krishanu on May 12th 2016

I've had these shoes for about a month or two now, and these shoes are precisely what I want. They are soft and supple, and completely flexible - it's like wearing a slipper, and you have that "natural" feel, yet at the same time they provide just enough sole and cushion that you don't feel jarring in your feet when you walk over bricks or cracked pavement. The fit is great (with a big toebox), but again the soft, supple build means they will conform to many different foot shapes. I can comfortably sprint in these shoes, on nearly any surface. They also look stylish - obviously secondary to the above points, but a nice added bonus! I'm back now to pick up a pair of their dress shoes!

    Primal-2-Eclipse Size 40

Posted by Khanita on May 1st 2016

I bought these shoes right before my trip to China since we were going to do a lot of walking. We walked around the Great Wall, up a mountain and around lakes and these shoes were really amazing. They were very comfortable but allowed me to use my intrinsic foot muscles the way they should be used during walking! The wide toe box was really great for me because I have bunions on both feet so they were never sore afterwards. They were really light and comfortable even though I was hiking maybe 3-5 miles per day. I like them a lot because I am able to see where in my gait I'm actually compensating and trying to fix it at the same time.

Within a week of switching to Lems, I was almost free of pain. Also ordered and thoroughly enjoy the Lems Mariner shoes. Highly recommended.

After I ran across Dr. Ray McClanahan's approach to treatment with correct toes and his recommendation for Lems, I ordered both and only after about three weeks, I have had a major reduction in pain!! I am convinced that Lems are definitely the best way to allow feet to function like they were designed. When I am not going barefoot, I am wearing Lems and correctoes! I also want to give a shout out to Lems customer service! The first pair I ordered was a little too small and customer service was very efficient in exchanging them for the correct size! Keep up the great work!

I love, love, love these shoes. They've given me back my walking freedom! No more foot pain at all. Since purchasing my Primal 2s I regularly take walks that last anywhere between 30-60 minutes at a time. This was an impossibility in my last pair of walking shoes - my bunion made walking just too painful. Not anymore. I WILL be buying more Primal 2s in future - no doubt about that.
