These are the boots you've been looking for...

Posted by Unknown on May 15th 2017

I have Morton's Neuroma and have been trying to make shoes "work" by sticking metatarsal pads in basically everything I own for almost a year. Since the neuroma is caused by cramped toe boxes and stacked heels, I abandoned by Ariat Ropers and Timberland hikers for LEMS Boulder Boots. Like everyone says, I was amazed at just how light they are. I put them on 4/21/2017 and have worn them every day for the past 3 weeks. They were confrontable right out of the box. I have a standing desk at work, am on my feet for 10-12 hours per day, these shoes are amazing. Turns out I don't need all that padding and crap between me and the floor... Only time will tell how long the sole holds up. If I had to guess, I'd say it wears out quicker than the shoes I'm used to, but if I get a year out of them, I'll call it a win. Went for a three mile walk (sidewalk) after 10 days of wearing them and the heel cup rubbed the backs of both feet raw. 6’1”, 205lbs, that’s a pretty good amount of impact from pavement, so they weren’t really comfortable at all there. Not sure if these will be better "hikers" when I get them out on a trail or not, but they’re great “everyday” shoes. So far, my only real complaint is that the fabric sides and toe box are susceptible to stains. Not sure if DIY waterproofing would help that or not. I can say that straight from the factory, if you spill anything greasy/oily on them, they'll stain. May come out in the wash, may not. Honestly, that just reinforces my decision to buy the all-leather Boulder Boots...and the 9 to 5's.

    Comfortable, stylish but collapsed

Posted by Ian Cunningham on May 14th 2017

I'm on my second pair of BB. I have mixed feelings about them but obviously liked them enough to buy another pair! Pros: stylish, comfortable, versatile, small/personal supplier. Cons: one, my first pair had serious issues with collapsing inwards. It's quite pronounced when looking at the worn out last pair. I asked Lems about it and was advised "the Boulder Boot outsole is a flat flexible rubber, if you have any gait issues, this can show up in the wear of the outsole. I would recommend visiting a physiotherapist or checking out our advocates webpages for great resources on over-pronation" I took a look and visited a podiatrist who commented that my gait was fine, perfect in fact. I have even wearing on all my other (general minimalist shoes). My friend also bought a pair after admiring mine and watching him walk, same issue, you can see the role inwards. Hence, I wonder if it is a design fault rather than my gait. As I said, I'm on my second paid, so the pros outweighed the cons for me... just. Would love to give the boot 5 stars but in my case, not yet. I'd also give this teeny tiny comments box which only allows me to see 6 words at a time one star!

    Boulder Boot

The boulder boot has been fantastic for working outside. I work outside all day and my feet feel fantastic. I already had a pair of NinetoFive's....and I just ordered a pair of Primal 2's. Keep up the great work! Extremely light and comfortable but durable!

super stylish, excellent customer service, meh durable

Posted by Barrett Carlson on Apr 10th 2017

I purchased a pair of the boulder boot browns (47 EU) directly from Lems approximately 8 months ago (August 2016) and I must say it has been quite the adventure! I now feel like enough time has passed that I can give an adequate review of my experience thus far and I’ll do my best to get down to the good, bad, and the ugly of my experience but before I do I would like to provide a little personal background to help show the context in which these boots were used. I’m 6’ 2” ~220lbs and decently athletic. My job keeps me on my feet all day and I’m pretty active when I’m not working (running around in woods, playing with younger siblings) and I have occasionally gone on short runs in town with these boots (they’re exceptionally lightweight!) I won’t say that I used the boulder boots exclusively since I got them but I did wear them quite a bit as they quickly became my favorite boot that I owned. Upon arrival -about two weeks after ordering – I received the boots in the mail. The boots fit well (I had sent back a first pair as they were slightly too big, try to get the sizing right the first time as Lems doesn’t offer free return shipping!) and the first aspects of the boot that struck me were how incredibly lightweight these boots are and how ascetically pleasing they were. At 25 oz/pair these boots rival good minimalist running shoes in terms of weight, and ounces really do make a difference in long days on your feet and walking and running. The boots are also very breathable and keep your feet cool and dry, that aspect does however let them get soaked pretty easily and also drafty in the winter if your feet get cold (I just layered with wool socks and it was fine) things were fine for the first four-five months when things started to go downhill. I was surprised because my first impression was that if anything were to fail on this boot it would have been the apparently cheap out-sole. I was proven wrong though and treads seem to have held up decently. The faux leather paneling turned out to be the weak link in the chain and quickly seemed to disintegrate on both boots. It was not long after that when the adhesive attaching the sole started to give and the shoe really started to fall apart. I contacted Lems about it with some attached pictures and I was very pleasantly met with prompt customer service and they sent me a replacement pair for free they had apparently had a “bad batch of boulder boots go through”. I would like to say that I f you are experiencing issues with your lems please don’t hesitate to contact their customer support they will help you out. Kudos to them for valuing customer experience! Overall I would recommend these boots in a heartbeat to the more urban, causal adventurer but for the more rugged violent terrain and daily abuse these boots probably aren’t your best bet.

    Boulder Boot

    Boulder Boot Pros/Cons

Posted by Joel on Feb 8th 2017

Overall, they are phenomenal! The positives have been mentioned already. Warm, packable, light, supportive, awesome boots. I would say a huge negative is that the tread pattern is nearly useless on these boots. Some types of slippers have more traction and last longer before wearing out.. If these had a slightly lower heel cuff height where your achilles tendon fits, and a deeper tougher tread pattern they would be the perfect boot..

    The "wear all around" boot

Posted by Rp on Sep 17th 2016

Great feel for a light weight boot. Although my only wish is that they had a model with a more aggressive tread. But I must say they made it through a good steep and challenging 6hr hike in the Canadian Rocky Mtns. I would highly recommend these for comfort, pack-ability and primitive features. I will definitely be buying future pairs myself.

Love some aspects, hope others will improve

Posted by Ryan on Sep 6th 2016

Pros: Lightweight, flexible, comfortable out of the box, zero-drop, moderate protection for a minimalist show Cons: Heel doesn't lock in (kind of sloppy), stitching may give way as the sloppiness will push your toes forward. I own at least five different brands of minimalist types of shoes (Five Fingers, Merrell, Lems, Mizuno, etc.) I use these as my comfortable campsite boots, work boots around house or in a wood shop, and most recently on a re-roofing project. They are comfortable and flexible with the right amount of sole considering they are boots. My biggest issue is that the heel has collapsed which pushes my toes forward. As a result, I have busted through the stitching on both feet. I have done my own stitching which has held up so far on one boot. I have yet to repair the next one. Obviously, waking on an inclined roof was perhaps not the intended application, but the sole flexibility and flatness was perfect for securely maintaining grip and footing. Hiking downhill would be similar. The issue is a more secure heel lock-in is needed. Suggestion: I would love to combine the strengths of my Merrell Trail Glove or Merrell Road Glove shoes with these boots. Merrell has a fantastic heel fit with a wide toe box. I moved from the Five Fingers to Merrells as my primary shoe because getting a perfect toe fit in Five Fingers is difficult. The Merrells succeed in providing a secure fit without slipping while allowing room to splay your toes naturally. It would be great if Lems Boulder boot could copy that secure heel fit (is it the contour of the heel?). This would reduce the slippage. As an option, a waterproofing option does appear to be something that many would like, although some of us are okay without it. I'd probably by two pairs!

    Amazing, But Not Quite There

Posted by Joseph Pallante on Aug 24th 2016

I love the sole shape, thickness of the boulder boots. Spot on for a comfortable fit. The only problems are that they do not do well in cold weather (even when dry, the cold air shoots right through the canvas), which furthermore means water is also a problem. Aside from the water resistance issue, Boulder Boots are great warmer months. However PLEASE Lems, even if it's just something simple like an all leather version, give us something with a little more protection from the elements during the other half of the year. I'll be glad to pay the difference!

I've had my Boulder Boots for just over a month now, and they are my go to shoes any day of the weeks. The are comfortable as hell and can stand up to a beating. I love minimalist shoes, and these boots have made that love even stronger. They take the strength of a boots and mix it with the comfort and mobility of bare feet. I have yet to have any kind of pain even after a 12 hour day on my feet! The one thing to be aware of is the boots don't keep out water. It's not a huge problem, but it is definitely something to be aware of when you are choosing your footwear for the day. Other than that, absolutely killer shoe!

    Great Minimalist Boots...

Posted by Kit Badger on Jul 24th 2016

These boots are great and... pretty much the only show in town for a minimalist boot. They offer a amazing amount of ankle support considering how light the construction is. The one thing I really enjoy though is not being a sticker magnet like my Primal 2s in the dry season. You can check out the video review of them I did at Kitbadger Dotcom.

So i am a big guy (pushing 390) and i have always been in the thickest soles, with the hardest rubber, with the tightest laces and ankle braces, and supports, and insoles, and extra thick socks, all to just try to get my back to stop hurting, and my feet, and ankles, and knees. None of it ever worked, in fact most of that probably made it worse. I got these on a whim after reading up quite a bit on my flatish feet and what a lot of places recommended getting shoes that are as flat as possible, with enough room for your toes to move around, and not a lot of cushion. every time i searched 0 drop shoes, lems were the first to pop up as best, or favorite, or most recommended it turns out i have to agree with every good thing i have heard about them. I have had no foot pain, ankle pain, knee plain, nor back pain since i started wearing them. Prolonged periods of standing and walking no longer cause debilitating pain in my back and ankles. (the need to sit down for at least 15 to 20 minutes just to be able to stand up straight) My ONLY beef's, are that they are a bit more than i usually spend, and because they are a tad warm, im going to have to buy a pair of the shoes, also a bit more than i usually spend, however after all the years of buying and trying hundreds of pairs of other shoes, ill gladly pay it until they DO cost less.

These are great shoes. I bought them to replace my old pair of Merrell Barefoot Power Play gloves which Merrell no longer makes. The Lems shoes are a good alternative, though I do miss the vibram sole a little from the Merrell's. I haven't gone hiking (yet) in these, but I'm confident they'll hold up for a day hike. I found they chafed a little at first until I started tying them differently, and now they fit perfectly. There's plenty of room in the toebox, which is important to me. I bought (and returned) a pair of Vivobarefoot hiking boots because they didn't have enough room for my toes to move. The brown color is great, though I half wish I'd purchased Timber instead... those look amazing, but I went with boring. Perhaps next time, because there will be a next time! I can easily see myself buying another pair when (if) these wear out.

    Versatile boot

Posted by Matt on Apr 26th 2016

I purchased these boots to wear at work. I work in an office environment. Looks great with khakis and jeans. Very comfortable, no leg or foot pain at the end of the day. Have also put some heavier wear on them working on my car in the garage. Still holding up great. Have read some complaints about the boots not being waterproof. Haven't used them in heavy snow or rain, so this hasn't been an issue for me. Have had them now for about 4 months. I plan on buying another pair sometime. Would reccomend.

unless you buy another pair in another color. this is my 2nd pair of Boulder boots. the first pair lasted me 2 years I think and still looks good and is as comfortable as they have ever been. Hands down, these are the best, most comfortable shoes you will own. All of a sudden you will realize, oh, I can wear these boots with shorts, and I can wear these boots with dress slacks, and hell, I think these boots will look damn fine with a suit

I am an avid hiker with foot problems. Bunions, extra wide feet, high arches, etc. I bought these Lems and gone are the foot problems! I absolutely love them! I normally wear a six to six and a half, got a 39 in these. They are a bit longer than what I normally wear, but for hiking this is perfect, as the feet swell and more toe room is needed. Really wanted to give a five star rating but for some reason, that option wasn't available.

    2nd pair of Boulders

Posted by Leigh Wilkinson on Apr 19th 2016

I love the Amber Boulder! My first pair were the black ones, and even though they were fully canvas they took more breaking in than my Amber Blues that have a bit of leather. This pair fit great nearly as soon as I put them on! Just as comfortable as the last pair, now with the added longevity of extra insoles these are sure to last me a long while. I walk an hour to work most days, from Queens to Brooklyn, and these boots carry me happily from point A to point B.

I've tried everything - running shows, 150$ Nike's, insoles - nothing compares to the comfort I feel when wearing my LEMS. I don't think I'll buy any other shoe again.

I have had my Buckeye Boulder Boots for a few months and they have absolutely replaced many of the shoes in my closet. They are extremely light, but have a durable feel so even though you move through terrain or the city easily you still feel protected. I travel extensively for work and only like carry on luggage. I no longer carry tennis shoes on the road, it is always my Boulder Boots in my bag....yes even for the gym on the road. They make my trips to NY with follow on to Denver so much easier since they pack well and are durable enough for finding the nearest Shake Shack in NY or enjoying Red Rock Amphitheater in Denver.

    3rd Pair

Posted by Rone on Apr 16th 2016

I'm on my third pair of Lem's Boulder boots. I'll continue to buy them for the forseeable future. I really like the fit and feel. After 3 pair: (1) I wish the outsole came in a tougher compound - I've worn out 2 outsoles all the way through long before the upper was wore out; (2) for running these are great, on the trail your ball-of-foot will slide around in the boot, it's a trade-off; (3) this boot is screaming for an all-leather version; (4) for the price I'm disappointed in the lack of durability in the outsole. Until a competitor can trump the Boulder boot, this is and will remain my every-day shoe. When I buy my 4th pair, I'm going to attempt to attach a thin vibram sole to the bottom of the Boulder boots in the hope they'll last longer than 8 months. Until the Boulder is outdone, I'll continue to buy them. All-day comfort on concrete and the trail.

    Very nice, with nitpicks

Posted by Weston Smith on Apr 15th 2016

These boots are very comfortable to wear, very light. I broke them in going up and down 3 flights of stairs clearing out a house and my feet felt great after*. My only criticisms: like every pair of Lems I've bought, the shoelaces are too short. May be personal preference but I like a longer lace. *The other criticism I have is the boots rub my ankles raw. I'm not used to a taller boot either but that's my problem, not the shoes. I'm not disappointed with this purchase at all. Just need to get used to them.

    Amazing Shoes, Need more Cushion

Posted by Hannah on Apr 15th 2016

I love these boots! Ever since I got them, I've worn them almost every single day. The natural shape is so much more comfortable than any of my old shoes that squeeze my toes together or have a heel. The only downside is that after walking on cement all day (I walk 8 miles/day on average) , my heel starts to hurt because there is not very much padding. These would be absolutely perfect if there was more padding.

    Great boots!

Posted by John on Apr 15th 2016

I have been wearing these exclusively since I got them about a month ago. They are very comfortable, fit well (I got 48's and typically am size 13), and there is plenty of room in the toe box which I love for allowing my toes to stretch out while the boots are on. This is exactly the type of minimalist boot I was looking for - something that looks normal (better yet, looks awesome!) yet offers my feet the opportunity to return to a more natural posture. Highly recommended!

My toes have ample room, they're SO comfortable, they breath, they're super lightweight, they can dressed up or worn for hiking, and they're zero drop. I get compliments on them all the time. Posted by I'm Only Sleeping on Apr 12th 2016

Love the idea of the boot but can't wear it as it is too small. Size 48 in the Nine2Five fits me fine, but size 48 in the Boulder Boot is about the size of, or a bit smaller than, a 47 in the Nine2Five. Beware that larger sizes may vary between models, contrary to the website's sizing guide.

    Wonderful, but with some reservations

Posted by Amy on Mar 16th 2016

These are sublimely comfortable hiking boots, and they stay wonderfully comfortable all day. I have a neuroma which tends to be a problem when wearing hiking boots, but with these boots there are no issues at all with it. For this reason these are my favorite hiking boots ever. However, there is a problem with them if you're going to hike anyplace wet and steep and slippery. These boots have very poor traction when worn on slick wet surfaces, causing more than one slip and fall for me in places where I wouldn't ordinarily have had a problem. I would sure be happy if Lems made this boot with better traction. I'd also be much more happy with them if they were waterproof. Lems is nicely up front about advising customers that they are not, but I would certainly prefer my hiking boots to be waterproof! If they had better traction I'd definitely give these boots five stars, since they are light as feathers and unbelievably comfortable. With the traction issue, though, I'm giving them only four stars.

I Love these boot so just had to write a review which I don't normally do. I came across the Lems site and was disappointed that I then could not find any suppliers in the UK. Considering that it costs a bit more to bring them in I decided to bite the bullet and go for it and I am so glad I did. I had these boots on doing the gardening today and they are just so comfortable, you hardly know they are on, so light and my feet, especially my toes, are thanking me. I bought a pair of the Primal 2's as well and they are just as comfortable. I am falling in love I feel like chucking all my other shoes, boots and trainers out and just using Lems. If you are looking for ideas Lems a waterproof hiking boot or wellington boot would be very welcome so I can walk the dog in all weathers with puddles and mud. In the mean time thanks for such a great boot. Anyone thinking of buying a pair, go on I don't think you will be disappointed.

I live in northern Pennsylvania and the boot worked well for hiking, hunting in winter conditions and in the office....once cleaned up a bit. I am very near the point to where all of my shoe choices are a Lems product.

These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn! (I used to wear Earth shoes) The superb fitting directions on-line gave me the correct size. I have a wide toe box, narrow ankle and size 5-1/2 foot so buying shoes has always been a challenge. Please continue to make these as I am a convert for life! Your shoes are the BEST!!

    great winter boots

I am so happy I found these boots. I have transitioned all of my footwear to minimalist, but I still needed to find some winter boots. These absolutely work. They are super-comfortable. I was afraid the sole would be too stiff, but they are not bad at all, considering they are boots. They repel water and snow quite well, too. My only negative comment would be about the sizing. The sizing guide recommends going up from what you normally wear, which I did, and the boots I ordered were huge. I had to return them and get a new size, which was still too big. In the end, I would have been fine with the exact same size I am in other shoe brands.
