I walk on concrete a lot during the day, and my feet often hurt, but I wore my Mariners today and didn't even think about my feet 'til I got home. My first pair had a weird angle on the heel that rubbed, but the delightful customer service people sent me a replacement pair right away. No problem with size. I'm not crazy about the short, angled tongue, and I'm not ready to go sockless in them, but I love the room for my toes, and they are handsome.

    Very comfortable and roomy

Posted by Karen Fetty on Aug 13th 2016

I love these shoes and I got mine on clearance. They were roomy and for me I used the same size as with my Primal's. They seem to resist stains as well and are easy to keep very new looking. They have the usual roomy toe area and are easily tightened with the ample laces. Since I can never return to non-Lems, I respectfully ask that Lems consider creating a slip-on shoe and perhaps a slipper as well. I love my Lems and people ask about them all the time and I get to tell the story. Thank you Lems!

    Great Shoes!

Great Shoes! Comfortable. easy to wear all day. I found the toe box to be plenty wide as opposed to what I have read in other reviews.

    better than a podiatrist!

Posted by John Colvin on Sep 5th 2015

I wear my pair of size 48 Mariners daily and couldn't be happier with them overall. However there are a few things that will hopefully be addressed with the new version coming out fall '15. The first is the black rubber part on the heel has started to come unglued on both of my pairs (I returned the original pair when I noticed this happening after a month of wearing the shoes and the second pair started to do the same thing.) I decided to just accept the heel issue as is and moved on. It's worth mentioning that the return process I mentioned was top notch. Brad and crew do a fantastic job of treating their customers well. The second issue I noticed on the second pair of Mariners was inside near the heel. The fabric was bunched up at the seam to the point that it was digging into the insole (which meant that going without the insole was a no go unless I wanted my heel to get chewed up!). Again this was a non issue since I used the insole. This is the most important thing I can tell anyone suffering from a Morton's Neuroma. I had my neuroma removed and had the privilege to have a second surgery to remove some fat pad that was causing issues too. While the pain was drastically reduced from the surgery I still had issues in my foot with normal footwear. The Lems shoes coupled with the correct toes spacers completely alleviate any and all pain I have associated with my surgeries. I'm very aware that YMMV with foot pain and treatments, but I would be doing a disservice of not sharing my success with Lems/Correct Toes. Now if only they would make a safety toe show for me :) I'd be set for life.

    Surprisingly Comfortable

Posted by Brent Steele on Sep 1st 2015

I have suffered with foot pain for years. I wanted a shoe that has a wide toe box and is shaped like the natural foot. I wanted zero drop as well. A podiatrist recommended the LEM Brand so I gave these shoes a try. After many types of orthotics, I'm going back to the natural foot and Lem's are a big part of that. I just spent the day walking around in my shoes (no orthotics, just a powerstep insole) and was happily surprised to find my feet and lower legs are happy at the end of the day.

This is my second pair. I love the way they fit. It took about two years to wear down the soles. The only problem is how easily they show spots that I have not been able to remove. This time, I am spraying them with a water and stain protector, so we'll see how that goes.

    Awesome shoes!

Posted by Justin on Feb 25th 2015

These do run small, had to order one size up and they fit great. Pretty comfortable right out of the box and only getting better. These will be my new everyday shoe. Durability seems good but have not had them long enough to really tell. It's winter here so have only really worn with socks, but comfortable without socks too. Looking at adding the 9to5 to my collection as well.

    Best shoe I've ever owned

Posted by Joe Martinez on Feb 17th 2015

I thoroughly enjoy wearing these shoes and do not want to wear anything else. They have a really great barefoot feel and are very well made. Lems is a great company and they make really great shoes.

    Real minimalist boat shoe

Posted by Alan on Jan 19th 2015

Once broken in, great. Shoestrings had to be reversed to lace over the top which cures the shoestring problem. The left tongue is a little offset but it does not seem to matter.Overall very good shoe

Good, but hoping they break in soon

Posted by Daniel on Nov 23rd 2014

I like the feel of these shoes. The toe box has plenty of room and the leather has held up well so far. They walk the line right between dressy and casual, making them very versatile. The only thing I don't like is that the right shoe wears a blister in right above my heel, even with socks. Other reviews say that this wears off over time, so for now I'm sticking medical tape to that spot to give the shoe time to wear in.

    Amazing Comfort

Posted by Matt on Nov 16th 2014

I bought these shoes after the recommendation of a medical professional, for best comfort and posture. It's a good thing that I love these shoes because I can hardly wear anything else anymore as other shoes throw my body out of alignment. They are very comfortable. Only complaint that I have is that they seem to come untied a bit.

Sounded good on paper, but too much like a regular shoe to be a boat shoe. The all lether design that we know and love is bullet proof, breaks in and becomes part of you and puts you on deck even if you are miles from a boat.

    Good Shoe

Very good, but room for improvement

Posted by Robert on Oct 4th 2014

Here's what I was looking for: zero drop, light, flexible, nice-looking, athletic fit. These are the best I could find, but they're not quite perfect yet. The lacing doesn't go very far up the tongue, so it's hard to get a secure enough fit that I'd feel comfortable hiking or breaking out in a run. On the plus side, the fit has gotten more comfortable as I've worn them in, they aren't high-heeled, and they're light. I've also gotten compliments on them, which is a first for me and footwear.

    Great Minimal Casual Shoe

Posted by Jordan Lauffer on Sep 10th 2014

I was searching for a minimalist shoe that was more casual and less like a runner or a trainer. The Mariners fit the bill, these shoes are my go to, for work, for casual wear. They're extremely comfortable and they look great.

I'm glad there is a comfortable, attractive, minimalist shoe that is actually shaped like a human foot. I have the Mariner and I believe they are ready for the real work. I'm glad I found this site and this shoe. Exactly what I was looking for.

One of the most comfortable shoes on the market

Had to upsize but happy with final results

Posted by Joec on Aug 7th 2014

I had previously purchased a pair of Primal 2's. The were great so I ordered the Mariners in the same size. I had to return them and go a size larger. I tend to wear the Primals more often but both are very comfortable. I would recommend them to anyone looking for as minimal shoe.

Bought these for the large toe box, along with Correct Toes spacers for plantar fasciitis. Have had them for a few weeks now. Very comfortable! & light. Great barefoot like ground feel. There is not much cushioning in the heal, which isn't great when my heal is acting up. Bought some over the counter orthotics, which helps. Overall, very nice shoe. Which I would recommend.

    Good once broken in

Posted by Tristan on Jul 12th 2014

When I first received these and put them on, they were quite comfortable. After a few hours of wear, I encountered the rubbing issue on my heels. This persisted for about a month of regular wear, but they are now exceedingly comfortable. I have high arches, so I have trouble finding shoes that fit and am generally wary of ordering shoes online. The removable insole buys me enough vertical space to wear these comfortably. After the break-in period, removing the insoles, and a good waterproofing treatment, these are good shoes for daily use.

Snug and take some breaking in, but very comfortable

Posted by Chuck on Jul 8th 2014

I ordered my normal size (and the biggest they have). They fit snuggly without socks, but I would order one size larger than normal (if they made it). At first, they rubbed pretty badly on the back of my heels, but after breaking them in, they're very comfortable now.

    Most Comfy shoes EVER!

Posted by Richard Slaney on Jun 30th 2014

I love these to bits. Super comfy without socks, really roomy, soft and plush and flexible. Loads of toe wiggle room. I must say these are the closest to wearing indoor slippers outside I've experienced. I prefer them to my Primal 2's and Boulder Boot, with the Boulder boot coming in a close 2nd place.

I love the feel of these shoes and after buying the Primal 2 I wanted another pair from LEMS. The only negative I have is the Leather Material is very thin and a shiny sheet that looks plastic. Overall very pleased with the look.

    Great Shoes

Posted by David on Jun 7th 2014

These are definitely the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever worn, and they don't look bad either. Obviously, they're not the epitome of fashion, but they look presentable and are made of good quality materials. One thing to note is that they're not waterproof, although that can be fixed with something like Nikwax.

I really like the Mariner now that I have the right size. I ordered, per instructions and the size 46 was just a tad to short. So with Brad's help I returned the 46 and got the 47s. The customer service is great and the Mariners are very comfortable and extermly lite weight. I hope to be able to try another style later this summer.

    Very happy

Posted by Dan on Mar 28th 2014

These shoes are incredibly comfortable! Coming from a "veteran" of minimalist footwear from another company...I want to wear them around the house for the fun of it. The most comfortable shoes I've ever owned, hands down (the Primal2's are similar).

    Fit great!

Feet took a little while getting used to them, but now are my faves. I gave them a waterproofing treatment with Nikwax and now I don't have to worry about them in the rain.

    Mariners = My favorite

Posted by Gerardo on Jan 5th 2014

These are by far my favourite shoes. I have the Nine2five's but they are a bit stiffer/heavier than the Mariners. The way the Mariners are built also hides the bigger toe box better and doesn't give the shoe that 'clown' look. The removable insoles are great for those cold days when wearing thicker socks is a must. Overall awesome! I can't wait for the vegan version. Thanks Lems!

I'm new-ish to bare form / minimalist footwear and wanted something I could reasonably wear with a pair of jeans etc. These shoes are perfect: comfortable, light, flexible, in short - a delight! Also, the customer service has been exceptional, I cannot recommend Lems highly enough.

Posted by Ryan on Aug 28th 2013

This shoe is great. You get the style of a boat shoe with simple and easy comfort. One of my favorite parts is that they are so packable and lightweight for trips. You get a shoe that looks great without carrying all the weight of the alternatives. Thanks!!!!

    For Everything, Even Biking!

Posted by Jesse B on Aug 27th 2013

I read a review on Birthdayshoes.com and decided to give these a try. At first I noticed the tongue was a little short and I wasn't sure about them. I had to take out the insole because they were a little snug. After wearing them for a week they softened up and now my Lems are all I wear! They're even now my favorite biking shoe!
